How Does Your Garden Grow

[ad_left]

Your home is your castle. At the end of a hairy scary day, nothing feels better than walking through that front door and shutting it behind you. The outside world with all of it’s problems and drama fade away. You put down your things, kick off your shoes, and seek your comfortable place. This is what being home should feel like, and there really is no place like it.

Home is also where we can be ourselves and keep our stuff. It shows our style, and even speaks volumes on what makes us tick. We don’t have to own our homes for them to be ours. They don’t even have to be houses to be a home. They can be apartments, condos, or even boats tied to decks.

An extension of your home is the perimeter that surrounds the space, the yard. Depending on where you live your yard can be made up of acres of green grass, or just a small square of cement, encapsulated by rows of potted plants. Having a space that is outside, but still ours, gives us the chance to experience the outside world on our own terms.

Since most people spend more time inside their homes than they do in their yards, there can be less emphasis on using this space creatively. Some people just do the bare minimum to keep the yard clean and presentable.

Any space you can claim as your own in the outside world helps you become aware of the very real connection you have to nature. It brings out a part of you that may not come out any place else. Looking at flowers as you pass them by in a car, or from a window, is a distinctly different sensation than being up close and personal to them. The petals of roses are as soft as baby skin. The smell of some flowers can be intoxicating. The feel of grass under your feet springs a flood of childhood memories.

In the darkness that is the hectic hustle and bustle of everyday responsibilities, it gets too easy to lose sight of the simple pleasures in life that bring light. A person never outgrows the basic need to see and feel the wonder of new life begin. That may explain why the smell and feel of soil is so appealing to many, and delivers a feeling of well being. New life is born effortlessly in soil at every moment. Caring for plants and flowers brings a peacefulness to the soul that quiets the mind as well. When the mind is quiet creativity and knowledge bloom.

There is so much to be said about the rush of pride, and the swell of accomplishment, that comes with being part of creating beauty. While you are busy watching your garden grow and thrive, you will be doing the same. Having a garden of your own may just be the reminder you need to stop and smell the flowers every now and then.
