Yucca plant - Plant Care Requirements


Yucca is a perennial genius of the plant family Asparagaceae, consisting of nearly 50 shrub and tree species. Yucca is popular for its rosette of evergreen, rough, tough, sword-like leaves and large terminal whitish flower bunch. Yucca is native to the arid regions (hot and dry) of the North, Central and the South America.
The yacca plant is an old stalwart that is a good starter. It is an imposing plant. It's leaves are sword-like, green and sharp. It has a tall woody trunk.

Plant Care Requirements


Light


The yucca plant requires bright to direct light.

Temperature and Humidity


Keep your yucca plant in an area with average temperature, medium humidity and good air circulation. Place it outdoors in a shaded area during summer.

Soil


Grow your yucca plant in an all-purpose soil mix.

Water


Water the yucca plant thoroughly, but allow the soil to dry completely before the next watering. Water little during winter.

Fertilizer


Fertilize your yucca plant monthly during spring and summer.

Pests and Diseases


The yucca plant is susceptible to being attacked by aphids and scale. Wash with warm soapy water. If infestation is severe, spray with Malathion like pesticide or Neem based pesticide.

Propagation


Propagate your yucca plant from offsets in an all-purpose soil mix.

Yucca Bonsai


As Yucca is slow growing and is adaptable in small shallow pots it is ideally suitable to be a potted plants as well as bonsai.
