How to make blooms last longer
When you buy flowering house plants from your florist, look for those which are full of buds. That way you’ll have the pleasure of watching them swell and open, and it will be longer before they begin to fade. It takes lots of moisture for a plant to produce blooms, so be sure to water faithfully while it is in bud and coming toward flowering. If you let the plant get completely dry at this time, flower buds may be damaged so seriously they’ll never open. In bitter winter weather, move the house plants away from the window at night if there is danger of their frosting when house temperature drops.

Or give them protection against the cold by pulling down the window shade; or slip a piece of heavy cardboard between the plants and the windowpane.
